Generally you can host your webinar on Univid with just your laptop and browser from anywhere. If you are streaming from a new studio, office, or location, and want to make sure you are good to go for your webinar - here are a few tips to follow.

(1) Internet & network

  • Test the network in advance - ideally by running a test stream in Univid.

  • Use a wired (Ethernet) connection instead of Wi-Fi whenever possible.

  • Disable VPNs, as they can prevent video or screen content from appearing.

  • Double-check whether firewalls or network policies might be blocking video or audio. Consult your IT if in doubt.

(2) Tech check

  • Ensure the correct camera and microphone are recognized by the computer at the new location (settings may differ from the familiar environment).

  • Always perform a quick “go live”, and preview as a participant to confirm that video, audio, and screen sharing are functioning as expected.

  • If you encounter black boxes in the video or screen share:

    • Try an alternate network connection (e.g., guest Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot).

    • Turn off the VPN.

    • Contact your IT department to check and adjust firewall settings, if necessary.

How to run a test stream:

You might want to test on a different webinar link, than you have invited your attendees to - as you might otherwise be visible when you press "go live".

To create a test webinar link either:

(A) create a new empty webinar on your organization, or

(B) copy the existing webinar in the left sidebar (see below).

You want things to be as similar to the live session as possible, why copying the session can be a good idea.

If you are using RTMP: Remember to update the RTMP key + URL to the real session. And use the same settings and delay as when you tested. Also, you will always see the stream before you publish it for the attendees, so you can test things in the live session directly if you want. Follow the RTMP guide.
